I wish someone would have told the Newbie this...

When I started online I was given a few bits of advice and I would like to pass them on to you.

Number 1) Keep items, documents etc., relevant to the project you are working on, in one place.

It is with this in mind, that I suggest you keep all of your Log-in details & passwords in one place.

Personally, I use a Word document but Notepad will suffice. When I start work on anything this is the first thing I open.

As a Newbie, there is nothing worse that making the effort to, get up early, in the morning, to work on something then waste 20 minutes or more trying to access relevant websites, that you don’t have the details for, needing to get new passwords, because you thought that you would remember them at the time you set them up. This, also, requires access to your email account, which, all takes time…

This discipline will help later on when getting your website online and you really use a Project Folder.

Number 2) Save your Password document to an external source, such as a Flash-Drive, so if disaster does strike you can access your work from another computer and keep it updated, regularly.

Number 3) Whenever you make a change to anything, remember to SAVE it before moving on to something else, or closing the App, program, document, etc,. I know that computers are supposed to auto-save, but in case lightening does strike twice!

Number 4) Concentrate on one subject at a time.
You may need to understand SEO, Social Media, Ad words, Blogging, but pick one and become proficient at it before trying to tackle the next topic. The tendency to hop from one thing to another can be great, but it should be resisted until the present subject is understood well enough to explain it to a friend over a pint…

5) Be prepared to INVEST in yourself – MONEY & TIME, learning and educating yourself.
Things change quickly on the Internet, so if you want to keep on earning, Keep on learning.

6) Be prepared for things not to work, for mistakes. We become conditioned to failure be something negative. Remember, it was what you were trying that was the failure, not you. History proves that successful people accept that something didn’t work and try something else. It’s called The Change of Approach.

Number 7) Give yourself enough time to carry out the tasks you have set yourself. Nothing is more demoralizing than finding you have made a mistake after hours of hard work and study.

Email Signatures Explained…

In the latest article on getting traffic to your squeeze page I am looking at an underused resource – the Email Signature.

So what is it?

It is simply the practice of putting a link to wherever you want a visitor to go in an email, so that when it is clicked on this link they open the window to your squeeze page, website etc,.

This is done by placing the link on your blank email page.

Most Email providers are basically the same.

In Yahoo, you click on OPTIONS which is at the top of the screen. This opens a dropdown box and we click on MAIL OPTIONS which opens another window, to the left of which is, a menu containing several options – We are looking for SIGNATURE.

In this window you will be presented with a simple word processor document which allows your name to be typed.

You can perform all the usual functions of a word processor, such as change the size of font, the color, the style etc. There is, also, the option to include a HYPERLINK, indicated by the link symbol.
By positioning the cursor where you want the hyperlink to appear(usually under your name) and clicking the link symbol a further window opens with http:// already included and highlighted – All you have to do is to supply the rest of the address of your site and press OK.

It is also possible, on some email accounts, to add an Image or a photo to attract the recipient to your signature.

If your design skills aren’t up to much, you can always outsource the image design to a company of which there are many...

Are Newsletters The Thing For You?

A Newsletter may not come to mind when thinking about getting traffic to your website. After all, you are new - What do you know to pass on to anyone?

Worry not!

Newsletters could be as simple as a short report, or a page on the web that can be sent to your list, once it has started.

The frequency of mailing it is entirely up to you and you don’t need many copies, anyway. You could go for one a week but for how long? – One Newsletter publisher I know of provides over 52, delivering one per week. But how about one a month for a year making twelve, obviously. Let’s be fair, if someone hasn’t bought off you in that time they are probably not going too!

Of course, there is also, the advantage of once it is written, its’ written FOREVER or until you decide to make changes.

Still where does your content come from?

Well, one source could be the course you took to get your website on line in the first place.
Presumably you took notes, or you have videos you can refer too? Well these can be used as reference material.

Then there are forums where people go to get information, help and advice.
All you have to do is to find one or two in the niche you have chosen and find out what questions are being asked. There maybe issues associated with your niche, in the first place.

You can bet your life, if one person is having a problem in a particular area then others will have the same difficulty.

One thing you should seriously, consider doing, is adding an optin form to your newsletter so if it gets passed around, which often happens, it  gives others the chance to join up to get their own copy.

Pick an exciting name, one that grabs attention is extremely important. Brainstorm with someone, may be a mate, your husband/wife or partner to find a name that is exciting, sets the tone of what you want to say and what you want to do.

Your newsletter will have many benefits, not least the ability to maintain contact with your list and one already discussed regarding the optin box.
Of course, the content will have to be good to make it attractive to others.

Granted, writing your Newsletter will take some time, but as already mentioned – Once done you don’t need to do it again, which is working smart not necessarily hard. So, if it took you two or three days per copy they are reusable, as already mentioned.

Finally, there are HTML templates available to help you speed up the process if this is something you would like to do…

Ever thought of Forum Marketing

One method of building your list with targeted traffic is Forum Marketing.

It is targeted traffic, because they and, you have gone to a forum that covers the market or niche that you are in and is known as a warm market.

OK, so what is a Forum, in the first place?

Well, a forum is an online discussion site where conversations take place. It's where Internet Marketers go for help and advice. So you need to be involved, to ask questions and to answer them as well, if you feel able.

Forums are found by typing your niche, plus the word forums into Google's search bar. Adding Beginner or 'Newbie' to your keyword will define your search further, them click search.
As mentioned in an earlier post if you add speech marks before and after your keyword the search engine will look for that keyword string specifically.

There is an etiquette to forums. Complete you profile, with a photo if allowed. You should introduce yourself at the outset, so other users get to know you. It is probably wise to browse at first, and then jump in with questions...And answers.

Every comment you make, on a forum, will allow you to link back to your squeeze page and you won't be surprised to find that this is the reason you are forum marketing in the first place.
The link that appears below your comment is called your signature and will be seen every time you interact. So a good signature is important.

What makes a standout signature?

Well, assuming you have something to give away, promoting it is the first step. You should make your signature sing...Of course, there are probably some restrictions to the size of your signature, so do the best with the space allocated to make it standout.

Another point about etiquette in forums - Always be positive! Even if you don't agree with the person you are 'conversing' with. No name calling, etc.
Remember people like positive people. Also, have suggestions and solutions when you reply. Writing something inane or unhelpful is seen as a way of getting your signature displayed without contributing and could be deemed as Spamming.

You will see Threads and Posts. Threads are the start of a new topic and posts are replies. As mentioned, once you have introduced yourself start replying.
It is good to open a new thread now and then and not just answer questions; this is deemed to be giving something back. This can be done by, simply, asking a question and as someone new you will have plenty!
There is the ability to Personal Messaging (PM) which is like emailing someone and helps with rapport and relationship-building.

Remember you can't break anything. If you want to change something, maybe in your signature, edit it...Don't be afraid...

Opportunity Knocking Twice? I Think Not!

Anyone searching for a business on the Internet cannot fail to be impressed by the range of markets available.

What may not be obvious, at first, are the two differing philosophies about how to attract prospects.

One says to build your list – offer FREE ‘stuff’, direct the prospect to a squeeze page, get them to sign, then build a relationship, rapport, even…and they will buy your product.

The other appears to say – Get a sign-up form in front of the prospect as soon as possible, get them to part with their money and onto the next prospect…

The former takes time, patience and belief.
The latter I’m not so sure about…

If that sounds a bit cynical, I apologise…The thing that prompted these thoughts is my receiving an email from someone I hadn’t heard of for well over two years.

Our first contact was due to me replying to an offer for he had for me…In his email, he phrased it as an ‘opportunity’, and I duly parted with my money.

This most recent contact also included an ‘opportunity’. Long story, short, it started by telling me how he had made $20,000 in one weekend and how I could as well!

Wow! I read further…

He had made the $20,000 and a further sum, I can’t remember how much, but it had zeros, many zeros after it. His associates had done the same…I was, almost, hooked once again – Almost.

The alarm bells started ringing when I reread the email, it brought back memories, of what I now know, are the subconscious tactics used to unsettle the reader, the “buy now before its gone! For a limited time only!” You know the sort of thing.

The emails continued. The next told me how many of his associates had also made thousands, again, over night.

One included an attachment to be emailed to everyone name on my email list (Spamming, surely).

Was I naïve to join in the first place?
Possibly - I prefer to think I was a novice and didn’t know any better. (Experience can be expensive…)

Then the memory of why I quit, in the first place, came back to me. It revolved around me having a problem, one that I needed help with… I had assumed there was Support as part of my membership; I emailed him asking for help.
I can’t remember all the details of the reply, but I do remember the bit where he wrote that “he didn’t get paid enough to train me”.

OK, so I’m older now, wiser - not as naïve, sorry, I meant new…I was able to see through the tactics he used and was still using, and then it struck me… He HAD built his list…Not in the way that I’m building mine, but he had built it. His associates had used the same methods, presumably (birds of a feather flocking together).
How long it had taken him, I’m don’t know, and I must admit, I don’t care – His way is not my way…

Just what would you tell a 16 year-old YOU if you could?

The question was prompted by a snippet of a TV programme I saw recently.

Now, as you may know, we don’t watch much TV here, due, mainly, to it being rubbish but it did raise an interesting question.

Personally, I would tell my 16 year-old self that cookery isn’t women’s work at all and to take advantage of the training offered to me whilst serving in the British Forces! Crickey, I could have been a Jamie Oliver or a Gordon Ramsey…!

Seriously, I would tell him to work for himself and not working for someone else.

Robert Kiyosaki has much to say about being an employee, suggesting that it’s just more risky than being a business owner or an investor.

I can’t think of a skill, trade, or profession that cannot be undertaken without being an employee. The benefits of one over the other are there for all to see.

Amongst some there is the feeling that employment with the security of a ‘regular’ wage coming in is preferable to the riskier world of self-employment. But is that so, especially in the economic climate we are now experiencing?

The idea that a boss, working miles away, in another city, country or continent, can dispense with your services, after what might be half a lifetime of serving seems not so secure, after all.

OK, so discipline will be needed, as you will not have anyone to tell you when you have to attend, how much you will receive in wages, how much time-off you will be entitled too, etc.
You will, also, be told how much will be taken from you in taxes and for social security. Promises will be made with regards to the benefits you will receive but will in all probability not be honoured despite you being forced to keep to you your part of the bargain.

That’s not to say, that as a self-employed business person you will have much more input but, maybe a little more and that must be a good thing, surely. Not only that, if one does have to live on ones own resources, and talent, as a person of business does, one never knows where it might lead.

In closing, I would say to anyone considering the Internet as a way of earning money to give it a go, give it a year! What have you got to loose?

This is how Google works...

As you are probably aware Google is a Search Engine. It’s where people go to search for things on the Internet. Google isn’t the only one but it’s the biggest, most well-known and the one that will be using here.

As an Internet Marketer one method of getting traffic to our Website or Squeeze Page is know as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). It’s not the only way – Many people choose to use other methods to drive traffic to their site, but more of that later.

Google uses a system where it ranks pages from a website – Not websites themselves, but pages – So a website with hundreds of pages might have, only a few ranked by Google.

So using Google we can search for something, using what is known as a keyword In this context, a keyword is actually a string of words we use for the search. When you press search results will be provided – This results page is known as SERPS, which stands for Search Engine Results Pages.

SERPS pages are actually two sets of results – The ones in pale pink, at the top and down the right hand side of the screen are what is known as sponsored results, meaning someone has paid for them, not for them to appear, but when they are clicked on the owner has to pay Google. These sponsored or paid results amount to about 15% of the page.

The remainder, the majority, are known as organic in as much as the search engine, in this case Google picked these pages from their relative websites as they matched the keyword we entered in the first place. They, also, happen to be the most popular for people click on.

Being placed on page one of a search is what everyone wants – And who wouldn’t when it can mean thousands of visits to your website per month…So how do we get on to page one?

Google wants people to trust them, they want the customer experience to be a good one…It’s no good for Google if someone searches for holidays and the results pages for clothes, say, comes back.

Google uses algorithms, to determine, which pages appear at the top of any search. Parts of this algorithm start with good Content – Google reward good content with a high ranking in SERPS.
They, also, reward Backlinks – Backlinks are links from the page selected back to the website or to another page of the same website…
If the site that presented the page, is a popular site, so much the better, as it adds to credibility, the page and to Google’s.

So Google like Content and Backlinks (Now for the bombshell) Google do NOT like squeeze pages.  All we have is a squeeze page. Does that matter where content is concerned, I hear you ask? Why waste out time trying to get our page on to Google if they don’t like them?

OK, so your squeeze page might not get onto page one of Google, but there is a way you can…not for your squeeze page itself, obviously…and the way of appearing on page one of Google is…by writing keyword-rich articles (keyword research is covered in a separate article), which you then post to an article directory, such as E-zine articles which, already has fresh content to it and links it, both helping with Google’s requirements…what, really, could happen? You could be on a page at E-zine with Google’s liking for pages…and you have an article accepted and with Google’s love of this site you could be swept along…too a successful page one showing…And shows how Google works…

Keyword Research Explained

At the outset, can I say for the sake of those who don’t know, a Keyword is a set of words used as a title of something, be it an article, a Blog, a forum-post, someone is doing a search for.

There are two types of keyword – short-tail, which are less that four words, and long-tail which are five words or more.

Now that we know what a keyword is, can I say that a Squeeze-Page is highly unlikely to get to the top of a Google search, sorry to disappoint those who are new to this.

However, there is something that could appear on page one of Google or any other search engine – and that something is an article, a blog, linking to a squeeze page, maybe to YOUR squeeze page.

Of course, your page will only appear if someone, doing a search, types in a KEYWORD that you have used.

To increase the chances of your article being the one to be seen, which keywords should be used?

This is where Keyword Research comes in, and it is defined as discovering the words that are going to be most profitable to use and these are the most popular and excepted words on a given subject.

There is a two-step method to discover the most profitable keywords for you to use, once you have decided what your keyword is.

Step one involves using a Keyword Tool – this comes from Google (just type in KEYWORD TOOL in the search browser and you will be taken to the GOOGLE Adwords tool page – It’s free so don’t worry).

This will inform us how many people have searched for the particular Keyword you have chosen.

Once we have discovered how many searches there are for a particular Keyword we will then discover how much COMPETITION there is for that Keyword.

It is here that I would like to reveal to you a secret…We want a keyword that has a HIGH amount of SEARCHES but LOW amount of COMPETITION…

Remember me mentioning short and long tail Keyword, earlier? Well, short-tail keywords get lots of COMPETITION, so remembering the secret above, we want long-tailed Keywords to keep COMPETITION low.

When accessing the Adwords tool, the screen displayed will be segmented with TOOLS to the left and the search area, called FIND KEYWORDS the remainder.

Take your time and study this well…there should be no rush to do this…

On the left of the screen, under the forth heading of Match Type you want BROAD to be clicked…

Then fill in the FIND KEYWORD area with the keyword you have in mind, fill in the security capture, should one appear(they don’t always) and press SEARCH.
You will, of course, know your own niche or market area, your domain name, and your Keyword will be related to that area after brain-storming some search ideas.

For the Keyword “cheap hotels in new york” (travel niche) I got HIGH competition and 165,000 Global Monthly Searches. There was also, a further page of alternatives.

The figure of 165,000 is good. We are looking for anything over 2000 in the Global Monthly Search and 2000 makes this, potentially a profitable word for us.

Now we have satisfied ourselves that there are enough searches, we now need to check the COMPETITION for that word.

How do we check the COMPETITION, I hear you ask?
Well, we go back to GOOGLE and we do a search. However, we put our KEYWORD into speech marks (“”). This tells the search engine that you only want to see results that match the KEYWORD EXACTLY.
Now my COMPETITION search got 3,530,000 results, which isn’t good…We want in the region of 60-70 thousand to qualify. Can I say here this step is more art than a science, so do not be concerned.
So, we go back to the KEYWORD SEARCH and my second most popular is “cheap hotels in new york city”, which as 60,500 Global Monthly Searches, so its’ above the 2000 minimum. Perfect.
Now type that into the Google search, in quote marks and this is also too high at 985,000 but a step in the right direction.

We, then, go to the next one…then the next one until we find one that fits both our criteria.

Can you see that what we have done?
We have used Google to sort the possibilities for us, with us filtering the Keyword results until we find one that matches both sets of criteria.

Granted it will take time and effort but it will be worth it in the end, especially when you start getting traffic to your website via an article you post to a forum…

Is ‘FREE’ is the future for business on the Internet?

Giving stuff away for Free appears to be the future for business on the Internet…What lies behind this marketing strategy?

Almost any search on the Internet today will produce page after page of websites, maybe millions of them, most of which will have something for free.

In fact my own website http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/ has an eBook and a weekly newsletter both of which are yours for FREE.

Whichever search-engine you use, be it Google, Yahoo, Ask, all remain free, advertisers bearing the cost. And, it’s a trend that is likely to continue.

It was a trend started by King Gillette who gave away millions of FREE razors to soldiers going overseas to fight during the First World War.

Later his razors were bundled with other products, like candy, making them readily available, and increasing their popularity, relying on the sale of blades, the disposable item, to produce revenue.

Similar thinking goes on behind the sales of things like bread in WalMart, where they sell it at a price to cover their costs but no more, hoping to make a profit on the other items you buy.

The text messages you send from your mobile phone may be free, the profit for the company.

So 'Free' is not only the province of the Internet...

As 2011 Closes We Look Forward To 2012

There are people who advise against too much looking back. I hope they don’t mind if we have a revue, a lot has happened this year and I have much to be grateful for and I would like to share this gratitude.

First of all, to those, on FaceBook, who are fans’, and Followers on Twitter I thank you, both. It’s good to know the Daily events on the page, with the associated video, and questions, the Blogs etc, are appreciated. I hope the happiness felt while doing them comes over the screen to you.

Then, there are those that have commented on what has been included, especially in Blogs, http://www.tkd1954.blogspot.com/
Your comments have been helpful, positive and constructive, and, again, I thank you.
Those who visit my website http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/  I thank you, also.

Most thanks, however, must go to my wife for her support and loyalty. She has never once expressed doubt, either in me or what I am doing online and I, really, appreciate it and thank you.

Now for 2012

Bob Proctor, from the Secret, tells a story of addressing the senior executives of a well-known insurance company. They wanted to know what, in his opinion, the few years were going to be like. When he told them that things were likely to be very similar to the previous few years, they asked him to explain. What he said surprised them.

In my opinion, in 2012, as in previous years, people are going to die, but more people were going to be born. There will be disasters, both natural and man-made. Money will be made and money will be lost.

The world economic downturn, we are currently, experiencing is likely to continue, especially if people persist in talking it into being, with its’ associated feelings of lack of control, means that an online presence becomes more realistic and a real choice for more people, which must be a good thing – People taking control of their lives.

Merry Christmas & A Happy 2012

All I wanted was a bit of control...

The Canaries, where I am fortunate enough to live are, nominally, part of Spain.

I say that things are nominally the same here as on the Mainland. Many of the things that apply there don’t apply here. The tax systems are different, and so is welfare and social security.

Also, I am lucky enough to work on the internet despite access being somewhat erratic http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/

One of the things that is the same here as on the Mainland, is the number of fiesta’s they have every year – Or, so one would think.

I, only mention this because the Government in Madrid has decreed that the number of days off must be reduced, and along with the ending of the Siesta – which even the loosing, Socialist government, was trying to get rid of, must be a thing of the past, in the name of efficiency.

Apparently, a modern economy cannot have its’ workers taking so many days off during the week, irrespective of
the climate, these workers toil in.

In a recent spat between Spanish and German officials, a representative from the German government suggested that if the Spanish worked as hard as the Germans, they would be equally successful.
It was, then, pointed out that in fact Spanish workers have less time off when annual leave is taken into account.
It was in this atmosphere of turmoil, in the UK that I decided to seek out opportunities for earning an income on the Internet

As I have mentioned, previously, it was a slow process. Not that I didn’t have the chance – My email inbox was packed with offers – people sending me offers, claiming I could earn thousands a month, a week, a day, all while sitting on the beach with the waves lapping at my feet.
I have to say, that once or twice I was seduced and actually parted with money, only to be disappointed.

Working here brought to mind a quote from Bob Proctor, from The Secret, who in an interview I saw, said he hadn’t worked a day since he quit as a Montreal fireman, in the mid 1960’s.

I was hearing this over 40 years after he quit fire fighting, so I thought he must have come into some money, or won the lottery. Then, just recently, I heard the explanation in a conversation he was having with a man called Lanny Morton. Bob tells Lanny that he enjoys what he does so much it can’t be considered as work.

And that summed up my feelings towards my work, on my website and writing this Blog. OK so, time can fly by and I not notice – But there’s no one standing over me telling me to hurry, or that I have to do something else.

Regards, Keith

Rage Against The Machine…

There is a rock group by the same name as the title of this Blog…I hope they don’t mind me borrowing their name…

My rage is about the amount of news available to us today…every hour, on the hour!

One day recently, I accidentally put the news on as I sat down to work on my website http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/ and heard a news item. Twelve hours later, the same news piece was still the lead. It was as if nothing else had happened throughout the day.

And not just on TV either …

Here, at Chez Donnelly, we don’t have the TV on much, unless memsahib wants to watch re-runs of Dallas & Dynasty available from the CBS digi-box, so we have the radio. Even then we get it – the same order and intensity but without the pictures.

I’m not sure which is worse – seeing it on the screen of the telly, or on the screen of my mind, which is what radio does – Forces you to imagine the things described by the newsreader – Every hour – On the hour.

Wallace Wattles, in his book ‘The Science of Getting Rich’, guards us against the study of famine, poverty, sickness for to do so will make you, temporarily, one of them and impede any progress being made in the study of getting rich.

Here’s a question for you - Who decides what IS news on any given day? What criteria do they use? Do you get asked?

In a recent report of a shooting at, yet another, US College the death-toll was put at four, only for a downward revision, to be placed in the scroll-bar at the bottom of the screen a few hours later. No mention of it came from the Newsreader.

Another problem is the immediacy of news reporting.

It was said that, when the volcano in Krakatoa erupted in 1883, it took three months for the news to reach Britain.
When John F Kennedy was assassinated, in 1963, it took a few hours for news to reach the outside world.

This week we hear there’s a monsoon in the Philippines and within minutes its’ on the air…On a TV and a radio near you…

I understand that from a humanitarian perspective it helps with aid and assistance but do we need to see people clinging for their lives onto the roofs of buildings, over and over, hour after hour?

Does anyone know where Google Street is?

The reason I ask, is that in a previous life I used to drive a taxi and last night I had a dream…

In my dream I was back taxi driving and had been given a job from
Google Street
…of all places.

As it was quite a distance from my base, I was reluctant
to take the job, when the controller told me that they had asked for me specifically, by name, as it were…

Unfortunately, I awoke before the end of the dream…

As you probably know I have a website http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/ and had viewed it just before bed.

If there is anyone who interprets dreams would like to give me an in-site or an explanation I would be grateful – You can e-mail me here... Keith

To Avoid Any Confusion…

I received an email from a reader, asking about the name of my Blog, which, from now on, will be under the name above, so as to match my Facebook name(Keith Donnelly-Make Money On Line) which you can find here... www.fb.com/keithdonnellypage

There’s also, a website, http://www.keithdonnelly-online.com/ which you might be interested in – There’s FREE stuff to which you are more than welcome!

As you can imagine, one thing a Blog writer should avoid, is confusing readers, that’s Blog-writing 101, so apologies for that.

He, also, asked why write the Blog in the first place? That’s a good question – That caused me to stop and think WHY I was writing this. And these are the conclusions I came too.

Firstly, it’s because I hopefully, have something to say, but not only that, and more importantly, something you want to read – And again, hopefully, to say it in a humorous and engaging way, with honesty and integrity. So, that the enjoyment of writing it comes off the page to you, the reader – This Blog is nothing without someone to read the words…to comment, to share it and, hopefully, pass it on to others.

This is not a Blog where you will hear of ‘Get Rich Quick’ schemes. The zillions of Pounds, Dollars, Euro or any other currency, you care to mention, into your bank account overnight, type of hype, we have all encountered in our Spam-boxes.

There is no doubt that this has happened – In deed, I know of one man who earned One Million Dollars in 24 hours recently, but that happens rarely, and in this particular, case after years of work, commitment and of list-building.

Money can be made online - And big money at that, but it takes time, patience, persistence and it does take investment…Not as much as if you had a ‘physical’, bricks and mortar, high-street presence but investment is required. Not only money investment but time… and all the attributes mentioned earlier.

I’m not sure of the protocol – Use of the first person (I), Does it cause confusion or spoil your enjoyment? I certainly hope not… So there we have it – And I hope you like it…To email me Click here...

Does This Sound Like Someone You Know?

Imagine this, if you will – its mid-January this year, Christmas has gone and the New Year Sales are shuddering to a halt, shoppers having spent their money earlier and the shop is empty when you enter except for the staff. There are two – he’s mid to late 30’s, she’s a bit younger, maybe mid 20’s.

You take out the super-duper new 3G phone, the unexpected gift, your wife bought you and tell them that its’ not working quite as well as you had expected. They ask what the problem is.

Repeating what you have already tried telling the customer enquiries people, by phone, at premium rate, without success you proceed to tell them that the free SKYPE phone-to-phone calling for a start. Then there’s the fact that E-mail isn’t quite as reliable as their Christmas adverts suggested. In fact it doesn’t work at all.

You know you sound like a whiner - but after all someone spent good money on it!

OK, so you are a pre-pay customer – Would anyone, really, upgrade to a contract when things aren’t working properly?

They are questions they ask – You answer the best you can.

Then the looks come - At first it’s just a raising of the eyebrow - Her to him.
They talk about ‘pushing’ something and ‘pulling’ something else. Then they speak of settings and they are away.

Despite having a website up and running, with a free e-Book for anyone to download www.keithdonnelly-online.com you are made to feel like an imbecile.

Then you remember that phone calls, the main reason for you having a phone, in the first place, are being suddenly cut off, or ‘dropped’, which is the correct term.

On mentioning this she asks where you live – You tell her and without even going to the computer she says that where you live is on the boundary of the signal.

Then there’s the shake of the head, just a little twitch, as if this isn’t embarrassing enough, already.

If they know this already, why did no-one mention it when the phone was bought, you ask? Silence – More looks between them. More raised eyebrows.

You feel uncomfortable but it’s just that you are unused to this new technology.

A search of Blogs and newsletters, aimed at ‘educating’ people is evidence that, despite the sites being aimed at those without any technical knowledge, the writers who appear to be the same age as the sales staff mentioned above. Despite claiming to cater for, and understand the predicament they find themselves each of the Blog items viewed quickly gets on to their, respective writers’ favourite subject, usually ‘social media’.

This is not meant to be interpreted as a slight on the Blog writer - It’s just that some are not brought up with the language of the Internet. Somehow it passed us by.

This was one of the reasons that a Blog dedicated to people, came about – to try and help those who have a desire to do so, to learn, to understand, to navigate their way through all aspects of new technology. Maybe you are from a different country where English, especially American English isn’t your first language.

Within days of setting up the website mentioned earlier there was a second one, dedicated to those who suffer from Migraine, also with a complimentary e-Book www.keithdonnelly-online.com/index1.html

Where did my previous Blogs go?

Hello, I'm Keith and I'm new to Blogging - Well almost!

You see, I wrote two items, a week or so ago, and then went on holiday only to find, when I returned, that Google had changed and my Blogs were no more! Not to worry...

So who is this Blog aimed at? Good question - You see not only am I new to Blogging but I'm new to the Internet, relatively, there I have saidf it. I have managed to build my own website - here's the address if you want to look.  http://www.keithdonnellyonline.com/

So back to the question - Who is this Blog aimed at?

Well, anyone who wishes to participate. You see, being a convert to the Internet, and a believer in what can be done online I want others to join me...If you want, what is euphemistically, called an 'online presence', such as your own website - to earn an income, so much the better. If you have problems with technology then there is someone you can bring them too. Not that I profess to be an expert - Far from it. But if I can't answer your question - I know a man who does.

If you wish to be a reader, and post comments, you too are most welcome.

Age, nor gender are an obstacle to joining me here...And so if you wish to email me click HERE - I look forward hearing from you, Keith
